The Carrollwood area is about 7 miles northwest of Tampa and includes two distinct communities: Carrollwood and Carrollwood Village. Both communities are located in Hillsborough County. Together they have a population of around 35,000 residents living in 14,000 households. Families comprise nearly 9,000 of the households. The median income for a household in the community is over $50,000, with the median family income topping about $61,000.
Carrollwood
Carrollwood was founded in 1959 and was developed in the 1960s. In the 1970s and 80s, the community expanded to the west. Carrollwood is bordered by Lake Magdalene, Tampa, Egypt Lake, and Carrollwood Village.
Carrollwood Village
In the 1990s census, the community of Carrollwood Village had a little over 15,000 residents. Today the area is made up of three phases with over 3,500 residential homes, townhomes, and condominiums.
Carrollwood village is a planned community, with mature, tree-lined streets, large lots, and stunning landscapes. Carrollwood Village is known for the abundance of amenities it offers its residents, including the respected Carrollwood Country Club, a membership-oriented golf community and cultural center. It also keeps residents entertained and engaged by organizing a multitude of community events each year.
The neighborhood also has its own shopping, dining, and entertainment venues for the enjoyment and convenience of its residents.

The Carrollwood Area is part of the Hillsborough County School system. It consists of four elementary schools: Cannella Elementary School, Carrollwood Elementary School, Essrig Elementary School and Lake Magdalene Elementary School. It also has two middle schools: Hill Middle School and Adams Middle School, and three high schools: Chamberlain High School, Gaither High School and Leto High School.
