Apollo Beach is a vibrant waterfront community located in Hillsborough County near Tampa, Florida. It features over 50 miles of interconnected canals that pass under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and lead to Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Many of Tampa’s most spectacular waterfront homes sit along the waters’ edge.
Residents can boat, fish, and participate in a variety of enjoyable water activities throughout the year. Or they can enjoy the 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, or simply relax on the spectacular beaches throughout the area.
Some say the beach community, which was originally called Tampa Beach and then later, LaVida Beach, received its current name from the Roman and Greek God of the Sun, Apollo. Others say the area was named after the space program. No matter which tale you believe, there is no doubt that the area has taken off in the last 30 years, growing from 1,000 residents to over 14,000. Today, Apollo Beach has about 6,000 households. Around 27% of the residents are under eighteen, while more than 63% of the residents are married.
