New Tampa sat largely undeveloped until the city of Tampa annexed the 24-square-mile area at the end of the 1980s. Since then, the fabulous community has blossomed. Development began with the Tampa Palms neighborhood and the area quickly became the choice for developers building amenity-rich, master-planned communities.

New Tampa grew rapidly from 1990 to 2000, as its population increased nearly 300 percent, from around 7,000 residents to nearly 27,000. Many homebuyers relocated to the area from northern states, including Michigan, Ohio, and New York. By 2005, the number of residents had increased to over 37,000.

Today, New Tampa has just over 50,000 residents, with a median age of 33. The median household income is $94,453 and the average household net worth is $541,355.

New Tampa has seven elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools. Most of the schools routinely outperform the rest of the schools in the state of Florida. The highly accredited University of South Florida is also nearby.

The community also offers residents a rich, convenient, and diverse selection of popular shops and restaurant, including the nearby Shops at Wiregrass and the Tampa Premium Outlets.

In addition to the amenities offered by many of the master-planned communities, New Tampa provides residents the opportunity to play multiple challenging public golf courses, a new ice skating rink, as well as bike and hike on miles of meandering nature trails.

Summer highs usually top in the low 90s and winter lows rarely fall below the 50s. New Tampa also sees approximately 245 sunny days a year, more than many other locations in the “Sunshine State.”
